About PAB
The Pakistan Association of the Blind (PAB) is a venerable organization dedicated to educating, training, and rehabilitating visually impaired persons in Pakistan. Established in 1960 by the late Dr. Fatima Shah, PAB has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for the blind community in Pakistan. With its headquarters in Karachi and a strong presence in all four provinces and Islamabad, PAB has nurtured a network of provincial and district branches across the nation, totaling 49.
Our Journey
PAB’s journey is a testament to unwavering dedication. From humble beginnings, it has evolved into a nationwide force for the visually impaired. Our journey is one of advocacy, empowerment, and inclusivity. Over the decades, we have grown, assisting in special education schools and through its resources PAB established vocational centers, and rehabilitation programs, making a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of visually impaired persons.
Our Legacy
PAB’s legacy is defined by the profound impact it has had on the blind community and society at large. We have shaped policies, and prepared legislative reports like Disability Acts, country reports on persons with disabilities for UNO like alternative reports on SDGs, UNCRPD, Marakesh Treaty, VNR (Voluntary National Reports), educational practices, and employment opportunities for the visually impaired. Our legacy includes being a founding member of international organizations, such as the World Blind Union, and actively advocating for the rights and welfare of the blind. We take pride in a legacy that has transformed lives and fostered equal participation.
The Work We Do
How We Improve Lives
PAB’s work is focused on improving the lives of visually impaired persons through education, training, and rehabilitation, mobility programs, provision of accessibility in public places like special counters in Banks, Hospitals, NADRA Offices, Special handling in Airports, 50% fare concession for visually impaired person and his/her guide in Air/Train tickets on all classes. We offer academic services, vocational training, cultural enrichment, and various facilities that empower individuals to lead independent lives. By promoting education, offering training courses, and providing support, we enable visually impaired persons to become productive members of society.
